Our state of the art DEK Stencil Laser uses a diode pumped, air-cooled, fiber laser, which produces a 19 micron beam size ensuring phenomenal cut accuracy and smooth walls. The closed loop linear actuators with glass scale mounted to an Aerotech granite gantry ensure an accuracy of 0.5 microns. GC-CAM PowerStation with proprietary DEK software tools completly automates aperture modifications and provides DFM tools to ensure ideal stencil design and paste release characteristics. With our DFM tools, all apertures that are approaching or under .66 Aspect Ratio are flagged and we are notified to make changes accordingly. We 100% inspect every stencil with ScanSTENCIL. This creates a superior platform to provide the highest quality stencils with 24 hour turn times.

Stainless Steel and Nickel

AGIs standard Stainless Steel Stencils are manufactured from, 302/304 Stress Reief Annealed (SRA) Stainless Steel. Our highly focused, but low powered state of the art laser cuts with high precision and provides the AGI advantage:

  • Clean cuts with no slag on the aperture walls.
  • Less heat applied to the metal which prevents discoloring and warping.
  • Highly accurate with smooth clean walls even before any post processing treatments.

Datum Fine Grain Stainless Steel, for Improved Paste Transfer Efficiency

AGI recommends Datum FG material as an option for improving paste transfer. The real benefit of Datum FG lies in its solder paste release properties. The fine grain structure of only 1 to 2 microns leads to improved paste release resulting in significantly reduced manufacturing defects. How it works is the toner particle is unable to adhere to the surface as the grains are far smaller. This leads to to improved print quality and release, especially with solder paste types 6, 7 and 8 where PSD can be as low as 1 or 2 microns.

  • Smaller grains for smoother walls and highly efficient paste release.
  • Higher grain count for increased lifespan and consistent yields.
  • Less build up in walls of apertures so less corrosion and failures in print run.

Oxygen Cut Stencils

Oxygen Tank

AGI uses Oxygen instead of normal compressed air to cut all of our stencils. Our studies have shown that Oxygen is a cleaner gas and provides smoother walls with less slag inside the apertures. These clean walls provide more efficient paste release for all of our stencils.

ASM Study on different types of stencils for Newer 03015 Micro Components

ArearatiographwithlineBelow is a study from ASM on different stencils and their aspect ratios when tested on micro components.Several different types of stencils were tested including standard stainless stee, Datum Fine Grain, Electroformed, laser cut nickel, electropolishing, and nano coating treatments.

The Graph shows how well the different types of stencils worked at varios aspect ratios on the micro component. The left of the graph shows the process capability for a stable print run, 1.33 being the baseline of what would be replicable results.
